I first heard about this book from a friend that is a missionary in Ireland (see my blog "Musings from a Fellow Missionary" dated December 3, 2005). I respect this man very much and so decided I needed to read this book. It's wonderful and I would highly recommend it if you are seeking more in your relationship with God.He begins in the first chapter by talking about "The Three Cs of Lasting Love: Conversation, Communion, and Consummation" and he develops these concepts throughout the remainder of the book.
In chapter five, he refers to the opening scenes of the movie The Princess Bride where Buttercup finally realizes that every time Wesley says, "As you wish," he is really saying, "I love you." Moon says, "And when we respond to God with the words, 'As you wish,' we are doing the same...As with any romantic relationship, conversation is not the end goal but merely the gateway to deeper levels of intimacy. At the heart of communion with God is the whisper, 'As you wish.' In communion, two hearts begin to beat as one and, at least for brief moments, reflect a single will."
At the end of every chapter, Moon has included exercises "that target your head, heart, body, and soul." You'll find a Bible study, personal meditations and classic spiritual excercises. He concludes the book with one of the questions that began it. "Do you ever feel that no matter how hard you try or how much you desire it, the bountiful life Jesus promised continues to elude you? If you answered yes, then I encourage you to pursue him...Don't settle for brief encounters instead of intimate dialogue; and don't withhold parts of your heart. Instead, pursue union. Say yes to God's extravagant proposal."
