Living with history

In the States, we travel to historical places on our vacation. We usually have to make a concerted effort to visit those places that are part of our history. In Europe, history is all around you. Every day, on almost every street, I encounter segments of Spain's history. Castles and churches and other buildings that are hundreds of years old. There are bridges and aqueducts that are thousands of years old. It's a different world over here and it brings with it a sense of wonder. It's really hard for me to even try to explain what it's like. So I hope you can come visit some day and experience it for yourself.

"History being all around you" for some reason reminds me of an old Friends episode. Monica has just whipped up something in her catering business. "Wow," says Phoebe, "and just think ... a short time ago this was just ingredients!"

Maybe the connection is only in my head, but I have felt the same way in Europe -- that everywhere you look is something historical. And for them, it's just like Target is to us!

I'm glad you're seeing the beauty and history there :)

It's true. Their towns are hundreds of years old and they pass by these churches and monuments every day and think nothing of it. Perhaps some day it will be that way for me, but for now I'm still awestruck. :)
