Remembering...

Today marks the 3rd "anniversary" of Alan's homegoing. In some ways it seems much longer, but in other ways it seems like yesterday. In July of 2002 our family went to Spain with 8 other college students to help the church in Cuéllar put in a patio and run some community classes in the evenings. Then in August Alan climbed his second fourteener, again with the college students. Labor Day weekend he drove Jen back to Seattle and the following Thursday night he was playing volleyball with the college students and suffered a major heart attack. A few days later he was gone.

He didn't really want to get old, but somehow I don't think he ever would have. He loved spending time with friends from church, riding his bike with Lorin and Tim and David, playing volleyball with the college students, watching Frasier late at night with David, teasing Jennifer (and a host of other people) about anything and everything and being with his family in California at Christmas. He had a goofy sense of humor that brought laughter into people's lives. He loved the Lord and his church and the people in it. He was willing to help wherever he could and he could fix almost anything. He was a faithful husband and a loving father. He missed his kids when they were away at college and willingly made the drive from Denver to Seattle to bring them home for the summer.

As I sit here writing and shedding more than a few tears, I'm grateful we had him for as long as we did and glad he is at home now and enjoying the pleasures of heaven and sitting at the feet of Jesus. But we miss him very much!

I loved talking with big Al about the Broncos! Thanks for the reminder of what a great man he was!
