ECA Science Fair

About three weeks ago, we woke up to snow! And on the morning of Science Fair day. We called for a "late-start" day and went ahead with the plans for the day.

This is how our school grounds looked at 9:00 a.m. (although by the end of the day, all the snow was gone).

We had planned to grill burgers & hot dogs for everyone. We moved the grill to the covered patio and the serving tables inside.

Some of the Middle School and High School displays in the Auditorium.

The elementary displays were put up in the library.

Visiting the Haleys

A few weeks ago, we had a long weekend at school and I decided to take Biscuit and drive back to visit Jon & Kathy and friends from the church there. Jon was preaching that Sunday, so while he was busy working on his sermon on Saturday, Kathy and I drove into Barcelona to see a place I had never visited while I lived there - Tibidabo (from the Latin, meaning "I shall give you"), a reference to the Temptation of Christ when Satan took him to the top of a hill and offered him the world spread at his feet. (It is situated on a hill overlooking the town of Barcelona.)

Church of the Sacred Heart, built in 1902-1911.

Believe it or not, they built a small amusement park around the church.

Looking the other direction, you can see the road up the hill and part of the roller-coaster track.

The stairs we climbed up to the upper level (after taking the elevator to the second level).

Christ overlooks the city of Barcelona.

Although cloudy and rainy when we arrived, the skies cleared before we left.

Nacho, Kathy and Jon on their back balcony. They have a great view.

ECA Spirit Week

This past week was Spirit Week at ECA. What that means is that the students (and the staff) dress up according to a different theme every day. Here are some photos from the week.

The first two photos are from Princesses & Aliens Day.

The next day was "Be What You're Not" Day --

Mr. C never dresses this way. Most of the time he's in a shirt & tie and nice slacks. This was definitely what "he's not".

The next several photos are from "Denture Day". The students were to dress like their parents or grandparents. Some of the staff chose to go in the other direction.

It was a fun week and almost everyone participated to one degree or another.

The Lion and the Lamb

I've been reading through John Piper's small book, "Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ." I wanted to share part of a chapter with you.

What makes Christ glorious, as Jonathan Edwards observed over 250 years ago, is "an admirable conjunction of diverse excellencies."

For example, we admire Christ for his transcendence, but even more because the transcendence of his greatness is mixed with submission to God. We marvel at him because his uncompromising justice is tempered with mercy. His majesty is sweetened by meekness. In his equality with God he has a deep reverence for God. Though he is worthy of all good, he was patient to suffer evil. His sovereign dominion over the world was clothes with a spirit of obedience and submission. He baffled the proud scribes with his wisdom, but was simple enough to be loved by children. He could still the storm with a word, but would not strike the Samaritans with lightning or take himself down from the cross..

The glory of Christ is not a simple thing. It is a coming together in one person of extremely diverse qualities. We see it in the New Testament book of Revelation: "The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals" (5:5). Here is the triumphant lion-like Christ ready to unroll the scroll of history.

But what do we see in the next verse? "And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain... (verse 6). So the Lion is a Lamb--an animal that is weak and harmless and lowly and easily preyed upon, and sheared naked for clothes, and killed for our food. So Christ is a lamb-like Lion.

How to Live Fulfilled (from another blog)

There's a blog that comes into my Google Reader regularly that moves me and inspires me and convicts me, almost every time I read it. There's a link to the blog in the sidebar to the right and you may have visited it before, but I wanted to share one of her posts from this past week that really spoke to me. I hope it blesses you, too.
